Wow, it's been almost 7 months since I've posted anything. I guess I got into the habit of just posting photos on Facebook, and not this blog. Today I was thinking this is still a good way to quick jot down moments I want to remember--for myself if nothing else. I used to keep a journal, but typing is so much faster....

Springtime is kind of here, although we've had quite the rainy, gloomy stretch lately. Everyone is ready for some sunshine! It will be nice to play outside again. Jacob is so happy when he is outside, plus it wears him out faster, so he goes to bed earlier! ;-) Hopefully this weekend we can get the garden tilled and start getting a few things planted. Also some flower pots. I don't have any flower beds yet, so I will stick with pots for now.

Preschool!

Jacob goes to preschool one morning a week. It's nice because he can get speech therapy plus he gets a chance to meeting some other kids and get used to being in that type of setting. There are 3 other kids there. He got a new backpack, and of course he picked Thomas the Tank Engine

New Bed

Last month Jacob moved into his "new bed", a little toddler bed borrowed from his cousins (who've long since outgrown it!) The first couple nights he was SO PROUD, as evidenced by this grin. Each day when we got home, the first thing he would do was run to the bed, sit on it, and grin. The first couple weeks he did great as far as going to sleep in it. Now the last couple of weeks, things have been more challenging. He has since figured out that he can get out of the bed! Which of course he couldn't do in the crib.

In typical small-child fashion, Jacob was like a magnet to the two remaining mud puddles in the yard. Stomping through them wasn't enough. Nor was sitting in it. Nope, best to lay right down in the mud.

Today our appliances came, although they won't be installed for a few weeks yet. They look so big! I've never had any brand new appliance let alone all at once, so I'm excited about this! Carpets also came, but they're still rolled up, so couldn't get a really good look at those. The kitchen will be templated for the countertop next week. Was going to be today, but they come from Fargo, and are backed up due to the flood, of course. We chose granite. The color is a gray with a brownish/warm tone to it. This weekend I really need to wash the slate floor in the foyer and get the grout lines sealed.

We made one of our last major purchases for the house today--LIGHTING!!! We ordered countertop earlier this week and carpet last Saturday. Those were 3 major things that we had to get accomplished (like last month). Mark has done a great job of staining and sealing all the ceilings and most of the walls (with the exception of a few drywall walls. I think that was a bigger job than we anticipated. I am starting to think about moving and where I'm going to put stuff/organize/decorate/etc. I really am pretty much clueless at this point.

Yesterday, Jacob got to fingerpaint with corn syrup and food coloring. He had a great time. He would paint a little, then lick a little, then paint, then lick, etc. We made 2 Chrismtas tree ornaments.

It's been ages since I've posted any pictures, but here are a few of Jacob in his frog costume. We went a few places trick-or-treating, although he didn't really "get" it. When we'd first go into someone's house, he'd start to cry--I think he thought we were going to leave him there. If they had animals or pumpkins though, then he was happy. He's always loved animals, and he's really into pumpkins right now--maybe cuz' he sees them EVERYWHERE!!! He likes to try and "hug" the animals--which is kinda comical, as they are usually much faster than he, and he usually lands on the floor trying to catch them.

Jacob loves to be in the garden. It was so funny watching him pick those -green- tomatoes! He'd grab one, take a bite, throw it on the ground, take another, etc., etc. I tried to get him to come help me pick the cherry tomatoes, but he kept insisting on heading back to his own plant. Then he tried to pick some watermelons, but they were a little heavy!

J has been fascinated with shoes and feet ever since he was a little baby. He's always loved to play with shoes, and his feet are still the only part of his body he will reliably point to when asked. Right now he thinks it's HILARIOUS to put on a big person's shoe and try to walk.

I bought this little wading pool for Jacob. He wasn't too sure at first, but once he got in, he saw how fun it was to splash around. He especially liked putting Mom's shoes in and out of the water.

On Father's Day this year, we decided to take Jacob to the Minot Zoo. Dads got in free! Jacob loved it, because he loves all animals, so it was definitely a day well spent.

Jacob is in LOVE with tractors! Mark won this pedal tractor through a raffle a few years ago. We finally have someone to use it now! Everytime we go outside, Jacob sees it and wants nothing more than to play on it.

OK, so these aren't Jacob's FIRST first steps, but he's getting braver little by little. I discovered this morning that this little red chair is perfect for a starting point for him. Last weekend Mark and I traveled to Minneapolis. My grandma got wind of this, and generously brought us a map of the twin cities (which we definitely needed!) Here is Jacob studying the map since he apparently thought he would help us find our way. Little did he know, he wasn't even going along!

"Yes, this is it, right here."

"Oh, forget it; you guys'll never find your way...."

This trip was also Mark's and my introduction to Wii bowling, tennis, and Guitar Hero. Now we are on the lookout for other friends that own this great time-sucking pasttime, so we can work on perfecting our skills...... Do wish I had some pictures of that!
